Biography

Hilda Eunice Burgos was born and raised in New York City, where her family
lived in an apartment building above the George Washington Bridge and
across the street from the local public library. She spent a lot of time there,
and her love of books grew with her and led her to finally pick a major in her
junior year at the University of Pennsylvania: French and Spanish literatures,
because the only thing better than reading books in one language is reading
them in three different languages! After receiving her BA, she went to
Harvard Law School because her dad told her he heard that lawyers read and
write a lot. She currently lives near Philadelphia, where she and her husband
raised their two grown children, and where she works as an attorney.

Her first middle grade novel, ANA MARIA REYES DOES NOT LIVE IN A CASTLE,
was published by Tu Books (Lee and Low). It is an ALA 2019 Notable
Children’s Book and received starred reviews from Kirkus and the School
Library Journal. Her debut picture book, THE COT IN THE LIVING ROOM,
illustrated by Gaby D’Alessandro, will be published by Kokila Books (Penguin
Random House) in 2021, and her second middle grade novel, MIOSOTIS
FLORES NEVER FORGETS, is also scheduled for release in 2021, by Tu Books.
